ABSTRACT

Extracts of plant materials are less expensive and environmentally friendly. Extracts of plant materials contain many active principles. They contain polar atoms such as S, N, O, P etc. Because of this nature, the lone pair of electrons present on these atoms is pumped on to the metal surface; loss of electrons from the metal surface can be avoided. Thus corrosion inhibition takes place. Because of adsorption of inhibitor molecules on metal surface, protective film is formed. Thus corrosion is controlled.

Key words: corrosion inhibitors, green inhibitors, plant extracts, natural products.
