EFFECT OF EARTHWORMS ON DAIRY WASTEWATER TREATMENT THROUGH VERMIFILTRATION

ABSTRACT


The works focus on effect of earthworms on dairy wastewater treatments through vermifiltration. The pH value of Dairy raw wastewater, filtered wastewater from VF and NVF units were observed. The pH of the raw wastewater was 8.44 respectively. The pH recorded at after the experiment was 7.74 ± 0.11 in VF and 8.15 ± 0.40 in NVF. The average EC of the raw Dairy Wastewater was 2.17 respectively. The EC values of DW obtained at the end of treatment process were 1.43 ± 0.03 in Non-Vermifilter (NVF) and 1.14 ± 0.04 in Vermifilter (VF) reactor. In present study BOD of the raw Dairy wastewater was 227 mg/L. BOD removal from in VF was 147.00 ± 3.69 mg/L while for NVF it was 204.74 ± 3.11 mg/L. The COD of the raw Dairy wastewater was 382 mg/L. COD removal from VF was 50.00 ± 2.00 mg/L while for NVF it was 175.33 ± 3.05 mg/L respectively. The raw Dairy Wastewater was 5023 mg/L. The TS removal of the DW filtered VF results are 2008.00 ± 7.21 mg/L while in NVF it was 3026.67 ± 30.55 mg/L. waste removal efficiencies of the overall both experimental plant VF and NVF were 80% and 60% respectively.
